In addition to dressing up in support of a drug free life, our teachers will show a short, age appropriate video in class that encourages students to make responsible choices when offered drugs, alcohol or tobacco. This video series is called Natural High and it uses current celebrities, sports stars, and musicians to encourage kids to be drug free.
In our 8th grade history classes I am hoping to show a video from the History Channel that details the life of Enrique Camenera, the DEA agent who lost his life in the fight against drugs and who the Red Ribbons memorialize each year. Your student will receive a red ribbon to keep that tradition and memory alive.
For fun, some teachers are choosing to decorate their doors promoting a drug free life. These doors will be judged next week and the winning class will get a treat from Mr. Reasor.
Also, the web class and myself are putting together a Born to Be Drug Free bulletin board of teachers’ baby photos….we’d like the students to see we were young once too!!! The web class will be putting these photos on our webpage and running a contest for students to correctly guess the teachers from the baby photos. Be sure to log on and check us out!!!
Finally, I would like to pass on some websites that I feel are a great place to sit down with your student and start the conversation of drug and alcohol prevention.
www.theantidrug.com - this one has really good factual info and links for parents
www.abovetheinfluence.com - this one has great videos
www.justthinktwice.com - this site has a ton of links to research effects and dangers of various drugs
www.timetotalk.org - this one is for all of you, as parents to help start a conversation with your children.
